Electrical

Lighting requires more than just light bulbs and fixtures. Sometimes, you need extra electrical components to make everything work. From dimmers to surge protectors, your lighting setup may require a little more complexity.

But before you buy electrical products, make sure you read the descriptions for the different types of electrical products we sell.

Types of electrical products:

  • Dimmers – Dimmers are a type of lighting control that allow you to easily adjust light output. Today, they can work all different types of lighting, including LEDs. Although the technology is improving, you can still encounter problems with LEDs. We cover the seven most common issues with dimming LED bulbs in our blog post. One thing is key, though. Make sure you buy a dimmer that’s compatible with your current light bulbs.
  • Electrical plugs & connectors – This category can include everything from adapters to connecting cables to power supplies. If you have any questions, make sure you contact one of our lighting specialists.
  • Receptacles – When you look at a wall plug for plugging in a table lamp or computer, you’re looking at a receptacle. In recent years, there are new receptacle options that work well in offices, schools, and hotels that include built-in USB ports for charging mobile devices.
  • Surge protectors – No, we’re not talking about the surge protectors that are under your desk right now (although surge protectors for lighting work in a similar way). We recommend buying surge protectors to protect large investments. For instance, when you’re upgrading from HID to LEDs.
  • Wall plates – A wall plate covers light switches and receptacles. When you buy wall plates, you’ll want to make sure it has enough slots for each of your switches or outlets and that the color matches.
